Distribution

Found in the Indo-Pacific.

ID Tips

Lithophyllon forms thin plating or encrusting colonies that grow in shallow or rocky reef zones.  Lithophyllon is not common.

Septocostae flow between the irregularly spaced, pale, corallite centres, and splay out towards the colony margin.  The central corallite is generally large and distinctive.

Similar Genera

The Coral Finder lists Lithophyllon in one key group with Podabacia being a potential candidate for confusion.

Lithophyllon can be confused with Podabacia, but the two genera may be differentiated by the pale corallite centres characteristic of LithophyllonPodabacia has corallites that incline towards the edge of the colony.
