Distribution

Found in the Indo-Pacific.

ID Tips

Podabacia forms thin plating, encrusting or laminar colonies, and are found in most reef environments, but are uncommon.

Septocostae flow between the corallites, which are inclined towards the edges of the colony.  The septocostae are thicker near the corallite centres and run at right angles to the colony margin.

Similar Genera

The Coral Finder lists Podabacia in one key group with Lithophyllon being a potential candidate for confusion.

Podabacia can be confused with Lithophyllon, but may be easily separated by the inclined corallites characteristic of Podabacia.  The corallites of Lithophyllon do not incline towards the colony edge and have pale centres.
