Gut

The gut of the polyp is a sac that opens at one end with the mouth.  The gut is the site of digestion and contains mesenterial filaments that can be extended out of the mouth and used to attack or defend against neighbouring benthic organisms that are competing for space on the reef.  The reproductive organs are also located at the base of these filaments, on the mesenteries.
